James lives in Ohio and is a leadership consultant, professor of management at Kent State University, and author of WorkTopia. His work focuses on helping individuals and organizations think differently about work, leadership, and what it means to build something meaningful.
With more than 20 years of experience across leadership, consulting, and organizational change, James brings a practical, grounded perspective shaped by both professional practice and teaching. His background spans corporate enterprise environments, higher education, and nonprofit leadership.
When he’s not working or writing, James enjoys listening to and playing music, nerding out on music history and ’80s pop culture, and having deep conversations over coffee or buffalo wings. He is widely regarded as a treasure trove of useless pop culture knowledge and hard rock/heavy metal trivia.
